In case you haven't heard, Nintendo has just announced a new DSi model, featuring larger (4.25 inch) screens and, err, no other features to differentiate it from the original DSi.

It will be launching in Japan in the coming weeks, in Europe next January, and a subsequent North American release TBD, with a suggested retail of around $220.
Do you think this is a necessary upgrade, and if so, why?

Seems like a weird idea and an even weirder time to suddenly announce it, but I like the mood it portrays. From the color schemes to the all around idea behind the console, I'd be more likely to buy one of these than a DSi. Much bigger upgrade over the DS Lite I used to have.
I'm sorry, but for $220 for that upgrade is not worth my money. If it has more features, then maybe but otherwise no. But I personally wouldn't purchase because it's a little bit bigger than the original one.

I think my biggest complaint about the DSi XL is the fact that DSiWare purchased previously is not transferable. If I were a DSi owner, this would be a MAJOR deterrent to buying the newer, bigger one.
